What Is Myobrace?
Myobrace is a series of removable oral appliances used in conjunction with habit correction & oral therapy exercises. These oral appliances are worn for an hour or two each day & overnight as the child sleeps. The goal is to guide natural jaw growth, create space for teeth to erupt smoothly & optimize facial development.
How Does Myobrace Work?
Many orthodontic problems begin early in childhood due to poor oral habits like mouth breathing, incorrect tongue posture, improper swallowing & low muscle tone around the mouth. These habits restrict jaw growth, which can lead to crowding, crooked teeth & bite problems.
To combat these problems, Mybrace’s oral appliances help train the muscles & support proper jaw development. They encourage the child to breathe through their nose, rest their tongue on the roof of their mouth & work on widening their jaws so they grow to their full size. As a result, new teeth are then given sufficient room to come in naturally straight, avoiding the need for braces.
Treatment is most successful when combined with regular practice of simple myofunctional exercises that reinforce healthy oral habits.
Stages of Myobrace Treatment
There are typically four stages of treatment with Myobrace.
Stage 1: Habit Correction
In this stage, the patient learns to correct oral habits that would otherwise lead to crooked teeth & poor jaw growth. Examples of proper habits include breathing through the nose instead of the mouth & keeping lips together when not speaking or eating.
Stage 2: Arch Development
It is important to keep an eye on arch development to ensure that there is sufficient space for the teeth & tongue in the upper jaw. For those with underdeveloped jaws, there are several other appliances available to help with additional jaw development.
Stage 3: Dental Alignment
As the permanent teeth come through, Myobrace helps to guide them into alignment. Oral appliance wear is especially important in this stage & essential to achieving the best results. If results are not as optimal as hoped, there is also an option for short-term braces to help.
Stage 4: Retention
This final stage focuses on maintaining the results by reinforcing healthy oral habits.
